I purchased a plastic tool that allows you to place the moulding in as if it were on the ceiling, you can then set your saw to 45 in the appropriate direction and make your cuts.
I bought it at Rona. |

| We purchased the same tool. My husband was saying that it was difficult to use it though (exhausting really). We ended up purchasing a mitre saw. People have advised us that you need to do practice runs first with scrap pieces and when you get the angle right then try it on the real pieces. It might be a good idea to go to Home Depot and purchase or take a peek at the 'Home Improvement 1-2-3' book 'cause they have a crown moulding section that gives a lot of tips about how to handle the corners. They also have little pamplets (as does Rona) available at the front of the store about different home renovations. I haven't looked through these pamplets really but they're free and they might give some tips in there. |
